6 Tissue
General term for fine muslins or gauze fabrics used for window curtains. It originally denoted very fine silk fabrics used for veils. This had silver and gold thread ornament. Finely woven figured fabric in several colours, the design being made by two or more wefts carried across the full width of the material. In the Middle Ages thin sheets of paper were put between layers of tissue cloth to keep it from tarnishing. This was the first tissue paper. -

19 Tissue Checks
Coloured check fabrics principally shipped to the U.S.A. Plain weave cords appear in most designs and the colour amounts vary from 10 per cent to 20 per cent. A standard quality is 31-in., 120 yards, 68 ends and 56 picks per inch, 40's white warp and weft, 50's colour warp and weft, 2/20's white cords in warp and 20's cords in weft. The cloth had a pure Scotch finish. -
20 Tissue Figured Cloth
Very fine muslins used for curtains, etc., which have large jacquard designs produced by extra weft. The ground cloth is plain open weave muslin made from fine warp and weft. Thick figuring weft interweaves with the ground warp only where required for pattern, and otherwise floats loosely on the back and is afterwards cropped off.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Tissue Figured Cloth
